What is the meaning of life? While in the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Douglas Adams claims the answer is 42, Judaism continues to ask the questions about the flow of life that typifies Ecclesiastes, like: If every moment in life is precious, why does the world feel so fleeting of form? How many of us expect a reward for suffering? If we have every possible pleasure at our fingertips, why is joy so fleeting? If life is impermanent, what’s the point of cultivating friendship? If my self is impermanent, what about the Source of All? If separateness is an illusion, then is there a path to living with the divine daily?
